Stay Scindhia Guest House AC double 600rps
Retrospective
Scindhia Guest House is a very good choice for its location and friendly staff – particularly the boss – Kush. Room is very clean with panoramic view to the Ganges. Burning Ghat is just next to Scindhia Ghat. To the main attraction and gathering place – Dasaswamedh Ghat is about 15 minutes walk – you won’t need to walk thought the burning ghat. The only downside is approaching from auto-rickshaw stand from the town centre thought the labyrinth ally way is near impossible not to lose your way. Scindhia GH actually charges 20rps for a guided walk. Arrange a pickup with the hotel is a must. And remember the one come to pick you up WILL know your name or has than in a greeting poster. We almost felt for the touts pretended to be from Scindhia GH. Kush later told us, those touts know the typical way he will pick up the guests from the station.
Preparation
Varanasi, the religious capital of Hinduism. Holy city, Ganges, Ghats, yoga, benares, prigrims, tourists, mosquitoes and now bomb attacks. 16 people were killed (07/03/2006) and at least 60 others were injured.
First bomb went off at Sankat Mochan temple minutes before main worship. At the time the temple is packed with thousands worshippers. Tuesdays are a special days at Sankat Mochan as it is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is reported that Sankat Mochan is not well known to tourists (so rule out targeting tourists?)
Another two blasts went off at the nearby Varanasi Cantt raill station 20 minutes later. Police defused two more bombs in the city.
India is now on highest security alert around the country.
